Fatal crash near SJSU: Man leaving driveway runs over person lying in street

The fatal crash happened around 1:45 p.m. on Highway 1 at Coral Reef Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer Sophie Lu.

A Lexus SUV and a big rig were traveling in opposite directions on the highway when the two collided for reasons that are still under investigation, according to Lu.

The adult female driver and sole occupant of the Lexus suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, Lu said. The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office will release her identity once it is confirmed and her next of kin is notified.

The occupants of the big rig — a driver and passenger — were not injured, according to Lu.

As a result of the collision, both directions of the highway were closed for several hours.
