Setting city priorities
Milpitas residents and community members can still weigh in on their local priorities by taking an online survey at https://milpitas.gov/JoinTheConversation.
Respondents so far have prioritized maintaining 911 emergency police, fire and local ambulance response services; repairing streets and fixing potholes; maintaining police protection and tracking and investigating crime; addressing homeless encampments; and maintaining parks and public facilities and the public sewer and wastewater system.
‘Outstanding’ documentary
The Avenidas Rainbow Collective is hosting a free screening of “Outstanding: A Comedy Revolution” on Aug. 16 at 4:30 pm. at the Milpitas Library.
Produced in 2024, “Outstanding” is the first feature-length documentary to examine LGBTQ+ standup comedy.

Milpitas Unified School District board member Chris Norwood was recently appointed to the California School Boards Association’s (CSBA) Delegate Assembly Governance Review Committee.
Norwood, a Milpitas High School alumnus and the 2020 CSBA State Board Member of the Year, will serve a one-year term on the committee and, as a member, will evaluate how delegate assembly seats are allocated and review diversity of representation, engagement of delegates and channels of communication.
“I look forward to bringing the voice of Milpitas Unified, Santa Clara County, and working with my colleagues across the state to ensure CSBA Delegate Assembly leadership engagement, representation and communication align with CSBA’s advocacy for high-quality education for all students in California,” Norwood said in a release.
