The fatal collision happened around 12:30 p.m. on July 16 at the intersection of South Bascom and Camden avenues, according to San Jose police Officer Tanya Hernandez.

Hernandez said a man was riding a bicycle southbound on South Bascom Avenue and crossing Camden Avenue against a red light when he was hit by a female juvenile driver traveling eastbound on Camden Avenue in a maroon 2015 Honda CRV.

The man was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was stabilized but later died, according to Hernandez. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release his identity once it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.

The death marked the 29th traffic fatality of the year on city streets. At this time last year, San Jose had recorded 29 roadway deaths.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Hernandez said.
