Kate Middleton and Prince William were reportedly forced to reveal they were romantically involved during a game of “Never Have I Ever,” while in college.
The details are coming to light in the wake of a new book from royal biographer Robert Jobson, titled “Catherine, the Princess of Wales.”
According to Jobson, when the now-married-couple first met as students at the University of St. Andrews in the fall of 2001, their romance “remained shrouded in secrecy,” for some time, according to a quotes obtained by People Magazine.
“Among the student community, it was an open secret that they were a couple,” Jobson says, adding the pair often walked to class together, shopped together, and spent nights at home listening to music, all under the guise of a close friendship.
During a dinner party that included Carly Massy-Birch, one of William’s ex-girlfriends, the group decided to play “Never Have I Ever.”

“Perhaps unwittingly, Carly exposed William’s secret love affair with Catherine, much to the prince’s chagrin,” Jobson writes.
Royal biographer Katie Nicholl also recounts the event in her book “The Making of a Royal Romance,” writing a party guest revealed that Massy-Birch declared, “I’ve never dated two people in this room,” knowing full well William was the only one who had, as Kate was sitting next to him.
This statement left everyone “in shock,” and Prince William “shot a thunderous look” at Massy-Birch, whispering, “I can’t believe you just said that,” according to a source who spoke with Nicholl.
Despite the initial tension, Carly Massy-Birch was among the guests eventually invited to their wedding, along with several of William’s other former girlfriends.
