Vacaville High School was evacuated on Wednesday after the school received threats of a possible bomb threat.
Principal Adam Wight said the school received a call Wednesday afternoon from a caller with a “voice adolescent in nature” stating that “your school is about to get bombed.”
Wight said police immediately began an investigation, and, at the same time, district and school site administration initiated Standard Response Protocol in order to evacuate the campus. At that time, according to Wright, police were able to locate the phone from which the call was made, take a suspect into custody, and determine the threat to campus was not credible.
Since the person in question is a minor, investigation details are kept confidential, according to Wight, but the suspected person was not a student from the Vacaville Unified School District.
“It’s hard to know what the motivation behind this type of behavior is,” said Wight. “I think often kids think that this type of thing is funny, and don’t realize the harm that is done. Our students missed out on instruction and activities yesterday. Acts of this nature cause families, students and staff a great deal of stress. From a school perspective, we take each of these incidents seriously, and make sure we are taking steps to keep our kids safe. I am grateful for our police department partners and that this individual will be held accountable for their actions.”
