Mystery surrounds stabbing death of a Pleasanton man who may have been followed home. Now police are asking the public for help

It’s been 15 months since 32-year-old Edevion White was found stabbed to death in a bloody Pleasanton apartment, but police say they’ve recently developed new leads that could soon lead to an arrest.

They’re hoping a member of the public can come forward with a crucial tip to solve the mystery behind White’s death.

Police say they’ve been looking for two ski mask-clad assailants who they believe knew White, a Tennessee native who lived with his girlfriend and her family member at the apartment where he was killed. Detectives with the Pleasanton Police Department recently received an anonymous tip regarding the incident, but said in a release that they need additional information to help confirm the tip.

“We urge anyone with relevant information to come forward,” Lieutenant Erik Silacci said in the release, “Your cooperation is crucial in helping us piece together the details needed to bring this case to a resolution and ensure justice for the victim and his family.”

White killed May 1, 2023, a short time after he returned home to the 5700 block of Owens Drive. It is believed that he met with two men at a nearby parking lot of a business, and that they may have trailed him in a robbery attempt.

White’s girlfriend — who court records say was sentenced to probation last January for an unrelated robbery — called 911 to report the attack. She said one of the masked men held her captive while another attacked White and she was unable to help him, according to authorities.

Investigators also hope to find more information about the nature of White’s meeting before the homicide.

Police are encouraging members of the public with information on the case to call their tip line at 925-931-5107.
