The fatal collision — the 32nd fatality on San Jose streets this year — happened about 10:30 p.m. in the area of Snell Avenue and Capitol Expressway, according to a statement from San Jose police.
An ambulance rushed the woman who was a pedestrian to a hospital, where police said she died from her injuries. Authorities did not identify her early Monday.
Police said the driver of the car that hit the pedestrian remained at the scene, spoke with investigators and is continuing to cooperate.
Capitol Expressway from closed from Seven Trees Boulevard to Snell Avenue in the westbound direction and from Vista Avenue to Snell Avenue going eastbound, police said. Authorities also closed the intersection of Snell Avenue and Capitol Expressway.
Those roads remained closed until about 4:50 a.m.
