Brittany Mahomes looks eager to “double down’ on her support for Donald Trump, with TMZ reporting that she liked a comment on her most recent Instagram post that suggests she will be voting for the polarizing former president and his running mate J.D. Vance in November.
It’s easy to speculate on what Brittany’s quarterback husband, Patrick Mahomes, thinks about her signaling her support for Trump and whether she’ll have to tip-toe around political talk when she’s socializing with her game-day BFF Taylor Swift, the pop mega-star girlfriend of her husband’s Kansas City Chiefs’ teammate Travis Kelce.
Patrick Mahomes made it clear in a Time magazine interview in April that he would not speak publicly about his choice of candidates, while Swift has previously endorsed Democratic candidates. She specifically came out during the 2020 election to blast Trump’s leadership and to endorse Joe Biden, prompting many to believe she will do the same for Kamala Harris this year, Vanity Fair reported.

Brittany Mahomes first hinted at her support for Trump last week, after appearing to “like” and to subsequently un-like, an Aug. 13 Instagram post from the GOP candidate, Vanity Fair reported. The post shared the “2024 GOP platform,” which included such bullet points as “carry out the largest deportation operation in American history” and “keep men OUT of women’s sports.”
Brittany Mahomes, who is pregnant with her third child, faced fierce backlash for initially liking Trump’s post. But she subsequently hit back at her “haters” on Friday, with a text-only Instagram Story that didn’t directly refer to Trump, Vanity Fair reported.
“I mean honestly,” she wrote. “To be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep-rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood. There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well.”
Brittany Mahomes’ apparent decision to double-down on her Trump support came Wednesday, according to TMZ. She liked a reply to her Instagram post, in which she shared a photo of herself modeling a T-shirt from the Abercrombie & Fitch’s NFL collection.
The reply said, “Glad to see you aren’t backing down. We are all entitled to our own opinions and shouldn’t be bullied into submission.” The message came with an applause emoji.
But on that Abercrombie & Fitch post, others came after Brittany Mahomes for supporting a candidate who they said would take away her daughter’s rights, who is a convicted felon and who is “dangerous and cannot be normalized.” But she was praised by her pro-Trump fans, with one saying, “Don’t let the liberals hurt your feelings, you’re gonna gain followers by supporting Trump.”
Patrick Mahomes ended up getting dragged into the discussion after he liked her post — presumably the photo of her in the Abercrombie & Fitch T-shirt. One person told Mahomes, “Trump does not care about black people come in bruh!” But another said, “We love you more than ever!! Go Trump!! Go Mahomes family!!”
In April, Mahomes tried to be measured in talking about politics in an interview as one of Time’s 100 most influential people. He had joined LeBron James’ “More Than A Vote” campaign to increase Black turnout for the 2020 election. But he did not publicly endorse a presidential candidate that year and sounds as though he’s unlikely to do so this year, Time reported.

“I don’t want to pressure anyone to vote for a certain president,” Mahomes told Time. “I want people to use their voice, whoever they believe in. I want them to do the research.”

But if Mahomes’ wife continues to signal her pro-Trump support, she will likely put pressure on him and their friends, Swift and Kelce, to take sides in the election.
Since Swift and Kelce began dating at the start of the 2023 NFL season, they have often socialized with Patrick and Brittany Mahomes. The two women also have bonded, with the two sitting together in VIP suites to cheer on the Chiefs. Last weekend, the Mahomes were guests at Taylor Swift’s Rhode Island mansion to celebrate the 37th birthday of Swift’s good friend, Blake Lively.
Meanwhile, Swift is the subject of a growing number of news articles, speculating on if or when she will endorse a presidential candidate. Forbes noted that her endorsement for the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020 came on the day of the vice presidential debate featuring Harris, with Swift saying on X: “Gonna be watching and supporting @KamalaHarris by yelling at the tv a lot.”
Swift followed up her endorsement by telling V magazine that America needs a leader who “recognizes that people of color deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included.”
In August 2020, she further blasted Trump for choosing “to blatantly cheat and put millions of Americans’ lives at risk in an effort to hold on to power,” Forbes reported. She added that Trump’s “ineffective leadership gravely worsened the crisis that we are in,” likely referring to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Swift, however, remained silent when Trump recently shared AI-generated images on X, featuring young women in “Swifties for Trump” gear, writing, “I accept!” alongside them on social media, CBS News reported.
But if Swift herself has not yet publicly taken sides on the election, many of her fans have mobilized to support Harris. The Swifties for Kamala group is unaffiliated with the pop star, but it has gained traction in recent weeks, Forbes reported.
On Tuesday, the group also hosted a Zoom call that included input from celebrities and leading political figures, such as Carole King and senators Elizabeth Warren and Kirsten Gillibrand, CNN reported. With more than 26,000 people registered to join the Zoom call, the group raised more than $138,000 for Harris.
