Jollibee’s Filipino fare expanding to Alameda

The fast-food juggernaut from the Philippines, Jollibee, has announced plans to add a restaurant at the Alameda Landing shopping center in the city of Alameda.

An autumn opening is expected.

The cult favorite is known for fried chicken so good that it’s called Chickenjoy, along with such Filipino comfort food as Jolly Spaghetti, which is topped with a sweet sauce of tomatoes, ground beef and sliced hot dogs, and palm-sized Peach Mango Pies.

Jollibee currently operates 76 restaurants in the United States, with 32 in California alone. The Alameda location will be the 11th in the Bay Area.

Details: 2670 Fifth St., Alameda; www.jollibeefoods.com
