The suspect is Eduardo Moreno, 30. He was arrested by Richmond police Wednesday and is being held at Martinez Detention Facility. His bail is set at approximately $1.2 million. His arraignment is scheduled for Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Martinez. He is accused of forcible rape, kidnapping to commit another crime and sexual battery by restraint.
The news release states that Moreno attacked an elderly woman around 5:50 a.m. last Saturday at a bus stop on San Pablo Avenue and Barrett Avenue. Before the attack, prosecutors said Moreno was masturbating at the bus stop. When the victim saw him and asked him to stop, Moreno became angry and grabbed and dragged the woman into a nearby alley, raped her and fled.
Police were able to get evidence of the incident and eventually arrested Moreno.
“We are grateful the investigative work of Richmond Police led to the arrest of the suspect in a relatively swift manner, said District Attorney Diana Becton. “We will work diligently in seeking justice and accountability through the courts in the ongoing public safety work we do for our county’s residents.”
