Blue Angels to perform Sunday after fog canceled Saturday’s show

SAN FRANCISCO — The Blue Angels were set to perform their air show on Sunday afternoon, following the cancellation of their Saturday show due to unsafe weather conditions caused by the notorious San Francisco fog.

Part of this year’s San Francisco Fleet Week events, the final air show this week will kick off at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, with the Blue Angels taking to the skies at 3 p.m., a San Francisco Fleet Week spokesperson told this news organization.

In addition to the Blue Angels and their support aircraft — dubbed “Fat Albert” — Sunday’s lineup features the U.S. Navy Parachute Team’s Anthem and performances from the F-22 and F-35B demonstration teams. The Blue Angels, a United States Navy flight demonstration squadron, previously performed on Friday afternoon.

Held annually between the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz, the San Francisco Fleet Week Air Show Presented by United attracts fans from around the globe. This waterfront event is headlined by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and is the only air show in the United States that includes a fully choreographed act performed by a commercial airliner, the United Airlines 777, according to organizers.

Saturday’s cancellation came after the appearance of the local weather phenomenon knows affectionately by some as “Karl the Fog.”

Fleet Week is set to close on Monday, October 14, with performances by the 1st Marine Division Ceremonial Band, the High School Hand Challenge, and tours of the USS Somerset and USS Tripoli.
