The Sunset Fire was reported around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, in Runyon Canyon Park, just above Hollywood Boulevard.

Because of its proximity to hilly neighborhoods reached by narrow winding roads, evacuations began when the fire was just 10 acres. The 3½-square-mile zone was bounded by Hollywood Boulevard, Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Mulholland Drive and Highway 101.

The evacuation order was lifted on Thursday morning.

On Wednesday night, the fire was estimated at 43 acres. The map above shows the approximate fire perimeter as a black line. For updates and details, see the Genasys Protect map.

Evacuations were also ordered for three other Los Angeles County wildfires this week: Palisades, Eaton and Hurst.
