San Jose: Teen homicide victim was stabbed in the heart on Valentine’s Day date, family says

SAN JOSE — In an online fundraiser, the family of a 15-year-old recent homicide victim says the boy was killed while out on a Valentine’s Day date.

The victim, identified in the GoFundMe page as David S. Gutierrez, was beaten and stabbed in the heart while out with his girlfriend for Valentine’s Day, the page says. The page claims other “juveniles” were responsible, but police have not confirmed this, nor have they identified any suspects or announced any arrests.

Gutierrez was stabbed 7:15 p.m. in the 300 block of Santana Row, the San Jose Police Department said in a news release. Authorities were called to the area for a report of a fight before finding him suffering from at least one stab wound.

The online fundraiser had raised more than $20,000 for funeral costs as of Monday evening.

Police said the case is being investigated as San Jose’s third homicide of 2025. The city notched its second homicide two days before when another teen, a 19-year-old man, died after being shot in a residential neighborhood near Canoas Creek.
