ORINDA — The California Highway Patrol shut down a stretch of westbound state Highway 24 on Wednesday after what it called a possible freeway shooting.

The agency announced the lane closure about 11:10 a.m., and authorities advised commuters to use different routes than the highway. The closure was near the Fish Ranch Road exit.
The CHP estimated the highway would be open by 11:45.
