SAN JOSE — A man was fatally shot near a popular community center Sunday night, marking the city’s fourth homicide of the year, according to the San Jose Police Department.
The shooting was reported about 8:45 p.m. in the 3500 block of Cas Drive, which is in front of the Seven Trees Community Center and neighboring library. Police said responding officers arrived to find evidence that a shooting occurred there, but no one still present.

A short time later, police were alerted that a man suffering from gunshot injuries had arrived at Regional Medical Center and died there. Information from the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office indicates that the victim was 20 years old, but his name has not been publicly released pending his formal identification and notification of his next of kin.
Police said Monday “the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation,” and did not release additional details.
The shooting marked the city’s fourth homicide of the year investigated by San Jose police. Nine homicides had been recorded by the same point in 2024, according to data compiled by this news organization.
