A pleasant weekend of Bay Area weather is set to occur, even amid the unstable air

The updating radar map above shows current areas of precipitation in green, with greater intensities indicated by yellow and orange.

The second storm is expected on Friday and the third on Sunday. Forecasters expect 1 to 2 inches of rain through this weekend in most Bay Area cities, with 4 inches or more in the North Bay hills and Santa Cruz Mountains.

A winter storm warning is in effect until 11 p.m. Thursday, March 13, for the Sierra Nevada. Heavy snow and gusty winds are forecast, and travel is expected to be “very difficult to impossible,” the National Weather Service said.
