ANTIOCH — A man who died in a street crash while on a dirt bike and another man found dead in a creek last month have been identified by authorities.

The dirt bike wreck happened March 20 around 5:40 p.m. at L and West Streets and killed 20-year-old Gabriel Gaspar, of Antioch. Police Sgt. Rob Green in a police statement said Gaspar was going south on L Street and speeding when he ran a stop sign at West 4th Street. The dirt bike collided with a white van that had entered the intersection.
A 52-year-old man driving the van suffered critical injuries but survived. Antioch police have not updated his condition. Multiple attempts to reach Green were not successful.
Gaspar died at the scene.
Authorities say dirt bikes are not generally street legal in California. They must be equipped with the similar elements as motorcycles to be considered that way.
Officers found the dead man in the creek on March 24 after being called to an area behind the 5700 block of Slatten Ranch Road about 11:15 a.m. Authorities from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office identified him as 38-year-old David Vasquez, of Richmond.
Authorities have not released any additional information regarding what caused Vasquez’s death.
