“This event is being investigated as a homicide,” the San Jose Police Department tweeted Sunday afternoon, without releasing further information about the suspected crime or the victim. “We do not have many other details at this time,” the department said.

The report came in around 11:20 a.m., and officers found the victim near Roosevelt Park in the area of 17th and East Santa Clara streets, police said.

The death is San Jose’s 17th homicide of 2024. The previous killing occurred Monday, when a woman was found dead after a report of a shooting in the 300 block of North 20th Street, between Washington and East Julian streets. A suspect, also believed by police to have shot and wounded a man at the same home, was arrested after a lengthy standoff with police. The man shot received minor injuries. Police did not reveal how the woman was killed, saying she died of “physical trauma.” Her death was the third in a five-day span.
